Visual Display Height

We examined the influence of backrest inclination and vergence demand on the posture and gaze angle that workers adopt to view visual targets placed in different vertical locations. In the study, 12 participants viewed a small video monitor placed in 7 locations around a 0.65-m radius arc (from 65 degrees below to 30 degrees above horizontal eye height). Trunk posture was manipulated by changin...

The Visual Display Transformation for Virtual Reality

The visual display transformation for virtual reality (VR) systems is typically much more complex than the standard viewing transformation discussed in the literature for conventional computer graphics. The process can be represented as a series of transformations, some of which contain parameters that must match the physical configuration of the system hardware and the user’s body. Because of ...

Visual Requirements for High-Fidelity Display

The digital radiographic process involves (a) the attenuation of x rays along rays forming an orthographic projection, (b) the detection of the radiation beam by a two-dimensional recording device, (c) the processing of detector signals to produce a digital image for presentation, and (d) the display of the digital image. The performance of the process is typically considered in terms of the ab...

A visual display system for reading and visual perception research

The selection of a computer visual display system suitable for word recognition and reading research is described. The software character generation routines permit flexible definition of character sets. The display software permits control of size scaling and point density of characters being displayed as well as control over the temporal microstructure of presenting and refreshing the display...

Haptic display of visual images

We describe an implemented system for touching 3D objects depicted in visual images using a two dimensional, force-re ecting haptic interface. The system constructs 3D geometric models from real 2D stereo images. The force feedback at each position is computed to provide the sensation of moving a small ball over the surface of the 3D object.
